ICU Bridge Program - Weekly Shadowing & Volunteering in the ICU

Interested in weekly shadowing & volunteering in the Intensive Care Unit? Join the ICU Bridge Program team!

We require dedicated volunteers:

1) Available to start in the Winter & Future upcoming semesters

2) Able to commit 4 hours consistently on any day of the week (Monday through Sunday), in any 1 of 4 blocks (8am-12pm, 12-4pm, 4-8pm& 8pm-12am) & is willing to commit to this time for a full semester

3) With a minimum of basic french 

Many spots available at the Jewish General Hospital Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit and some at the Montreal General Hospital ICU Trauma Unit for the Winter 2017 semester . Preference is given to students who are flexible with their hospital choice.

McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Adult Sites

Each year over 1200 volunteers provide services to the adult patient population of the MUHC at the Montreal Chest Institute, the Montreal General Hospital, the Montreal Neurological Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital. The volunteers relate and respond to the needs of patients, their families and friends and the hospital staff. They are committed individuals, rendering a vast array of services which have a positive impact on both patient and staff morale.

Montreal Children's Hospital

Each year hundreds of adults volunteer at the Montreal Children's Hospital. Volunteer opportunities include patient and staff support on in-patient wards and in the Emergency Department, escorting patients and parents to day surgery, providing information at the main entrances and clerical support. The support provided by volunteers complements the services provided by the staff. Orientation and training is provided to all volunteers.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization that builds simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with people in need. Volunteers and partner families provide most of the labour, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build the houses. Habitat for Humanity houses are sold to partner families at no profit and with no interest charged; mortgage payments are used to build more houses.

Santropol roulant

A volunteer organization established in 1995 and run by motivated and dynamic young people in the community. They bring people and groups together across cultures and generations through their innovative meals-on-wheels service and intergenerational programs. Volunteer opportunities are available in the kitchen, delivering meals as well as helping with bike repair, administration, event coordination, transportation, design, etc.

The Yellow Door

Dans La Rue

Chez Pops, the day center which is part of Dans La Rue, offers services adapted to the specific needs of street kids. There are a series of constructive activities and programs designed to help them make concrete, positive steps towards realizing their inner potential. Before Chez Pops, nothing of this kind was available for street kids. Volunteers are also active at the Day Centre in a variety of activities. The kitchen can always using an extra hand over the lunch hour and the depot, the art room, the music room and the computer room can also use some outside volunteer help.

Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation

The Heart and Stroke Foundation, a volunteer-based health charity, leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke through: the advancement of research and its application; the promotion of healthy living; and advocacy.

Old Brewery Mission

The Old Brewery Mission provides homeless Montreal adults with meals, overnight shelter, transitional residence, clothing and services in an atmosphere of caring and respect. Volunteers can help prepare and serve meals as well as sort the goods donated to the Old Brewery Mission.

Face to Face Listening and Intervention

The Face à Face Listening and Referral Center provides services to anyone in need of a supportive, non judgmental ear. Volunteers provide active listening face to face and over the telephone to individuals struggling with loneliness, isolation and other personal or social issues. They also provide individuals with information and referrals on issues pertaining to shelters, food banks, etc.. and work with homeless population seeking assistance with social aid benefits and other needs, helping fill out forms and applications.

Douglas Hospital

Volunteer positions are available in the Hospital's clinical services, with children and adolescents, adults, or seniors with the Moving Ahead Program, helping patients reintegrate into the community and with Pastoral Services, supporting patients in their spiritual lives and helping religious personnel in their daily work.

Hema Quebec

Volunteers help telephone recruiting team make calls to Quebecers to encourage them to donate blood. Volunteers contribute by calling donors whose names are already listed to advise them of a blood drive in their area. Volunteers can also participate by helping staff members at blood drive locations performing tasks such as greeting donors, accompanying donors through the various stages of the donation process, accompanying the donor to the rest area after the donation, serving refreshments following the donation, etc.

SPCA

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals is looking for volunteers to help their mission in improving the environment for animals in our society. The SPCA takes in large groups of animals found or given up by their owners and provides shelter for them while putting them up for adoption by new owners. Volunteers are mainly concerned with the adoption and adminstrative work where they might be adoption counsellors, pet profile writers, or adoption follow up agents.

Scouts Canada

Scouts Canada involves weekly meetings for boys and girls of ages 5 to 18 who participate in challenging programs. There are various age groups, each with specific themes to help develop youth into responsible citizens. Scouts Canada focuses on healthy, active living, environmental stewardship, and leadership skills, and the programs are completely run by volunteers. Volunteers may be involved directly with the you with coordinating their activities and leading groups. Volunteers may also be involved in administration and organizing/planning events which involve less direct work with youth members.
