Hello Biochem and IHI community!
BUGS has put together information about courses in the program and we hope it helps both new and returning students in their course selection!
This is not an official guide to the Biochemistry program, and has been formulated from student opinions and feedback. These opinions are not necessarily shared by the Department of Biochemistry, the Faculty of Science or McGill University.
We are not responsible for any inaccuracies on the website and encourage all students to refer to the Undergraduate Department of Biochemistry Website for the most recent information about required classes, prerequisites, etc. regarding their specific program.

Course Evaluations
BUGS organizes course evaluations for each BIOC course in the undergraduate program. These evaluations are separate from McGill-wide Mercury course evaluations, these are made by students, for students! At the end of each semester, BUGS council members gather feedback and meet with BIOC course coordinators to express student concerns and suggest how courses can be improved. Make your voices heard!
Course evaluations are available at the end of each semester and links can be found in our linktree when open!
Academic Complaints
The Director of Academic Affairs (DAA) monitors the BUGS Academic Feedback Form, which allows undergraduate students to share any experiences in the Biochemistry program that disrupted or negatively impacted their learning capacity. BUGS intends to translate students’ experiences to department administrators to better improve students’ experiences.
The Science Undergraduate Society equally takes academic feedback and complaints about undergraduate courses in the Faculty of Science and their form can be found here.
Policy on Assessment of Student Learning (PASL)
PASL is an updated framework for fair learning and assessment practices at McGill, adopted in Fall 2024. This prioritizes equity, fairness and student well-being to ensure assessments support the learning process. Some notable aspects of this policy include:
- Student workload considerations: no graded assessment tasks due during Fall or Winter Reading Break (6.8)
- Clear assessment criteria: instructors must provide clear description of exam format and rubrics for all assessment tasks (5.5, 6.1, 6.3)
- Transparency: students may consult any written or oral assessment, with an explanation of the grade (5.7)
If you believe the Policy on Assessment of Student Learning is not being respected, you can submit an academic complaint through the SUS academic complaint form, or contact the course coordinator.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email the Director of Academic Affairs (DAA) at bugs@susmcgill.ca.
